Sweet Potato Mash

This silky Sweet Potato Mash, enhanced by the smoky, savory notes of HVSS Kiawe Salt, is a vibrant and versatile side. Baked purple or orange sweet potatoes are whipped with butter until smooth, creating a creamy texture that pairs beautifully with pork or other hearty dishes. The distinct color of the purple sweet potatoes, common in Hawaii, makes for a visually stunning accompaniment, while the rich, buttery flavor combined with the Kiawe salt adds depth and a touch of island flair to this classic comfort food.

Ingredients:

  • Purple or orange sweet potatoes (as many as desired)
  • 1 tablespoon butter per sweet potato
  • 1 teaspoon HVSS Kiawe Salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Bake sweet potatoes for 1 hour and 20 minutes, until soft.
  3. Once baked, let the sweet potatoes cool slightly, then cut them into chunks.
  4. Add the sweet potato chunks to a food processor along with 1 tablespoon of butter per potato.
  5. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of HVSS Kiawe Salt.
  6. Process until smooth and creamy.
  7. Serve warm as a flavorful side dish.
